Mirela Šćasni is a professor of solo-singing, vocal techniques and chamber music at the school for elementary and secondary education in music “Vida Matjan” She was born in Belgrade in 1962. She started her musical education at the department of piano and flute, and later went on solo-singing. In 1988 she graduated at The Faculty of Musical Art in Belgrade, in the class of the professor Zvonimir Krnetić.
She has lived in Herceg Novi since 1989, where she has founded the first department of solo-singing in Montenegro. As a professor she has won many prizes with her students on domestic and international contests (special prizes in Italy, Bulgaria, Serbia and Montenegro).
She is a founder and a director of The International Contest of Solo-singers “Bruna Špiler” which has been successfully held in Herceg Novi every spring since 2008. She has been a jury member of many contests in solo-singing in Montenegro and nearby countries. She is a long term president of the jury of The Kids Festival “Male skale” as well as a member of the organizing board of “The festival of male vocal bands – Perast” and the art manager of the male vocal band “Stari kapetan”. In 2010 she became the music director of the first musical in Montenegro “Pepeljuga i rok zvijezda” aand in 2011 as a member of the group “Avenir”, she set up a part from musical and theatrical play “Les Miserables” in French language.
Most of her students have successfully continued their education at academies all over former Yugoslavia, they sing in Opera of Belgrade, perform solo concerts or are active as professors.
